Shipyard Park Phase III
Location: Charlestown, MA
Client: Boston Redevelopment Authority

The Charlestown Naval Shipyard served the US Navy for almost 175 years. Since its closure in 1974, the park has been preserved by the National Park Service as a waterfront park in Boston. BRR designed Phase III, a $2.3M promenade which abuts one of several old dry docks that open onto Boston Harbor. We worked to preserve existing artifacts of Boston’s maritime history, including a dry dock crane, large anchors, and a mooring space for historic boat and shallow draft commuter vessels. The appropriately historic brick and wood walkway has withstood heavy public use and salt spray. Benches and light poles were added for the comfort of residents and tourists enjoying harbor views.
