195 District Park in Providence, RI occupies land that became available after an I-195 overpass was removed and relocated. A pedestrian bridge links the park across the Providence River, creating a new alternative route from downtown Providence to the Fox Point and nearby College Hill neighborhoods. A promenade extends Dorrance Street from downtown through the park. Native species, rain gardens, permeable paving, and lawns reduce the impact of flood events on stormwater infrastructure. Views up and down the river, a riverwalk, a plaza overlooking the water, and spaces for watching the City’s popular event “WaterFire” encourage people of all ages to use the park. Construction was completed in 2020.
