Boston Common + Public Garden

Location: Boston, MA
Client:
Friends of the Public Garden and Boston Common
Owner: City of Boston
Architect: McGinley Kalsow & Associates

Brown, Richardson + Rowe, Inc. has completed three separate planning projects for The Friends of the Public Garden and Boston Common. Most recently, BRR examined the recent history of planning and improvements as well as historical images, conducted a site inventory of existing conditions, noted opportunities for improvement, and met with Parks Department officials to discuss their challenges in maintaining and improving the parks in an era of fiscal austerity. The report, presented specific recommendations for capital improvements in order of priority, with cost estimates for each. The 24 acre Public Garden is perceived as achieving world-class status, while the 51 acre Common is viewed as falling short.
