Shipyard Park Phase III
Location: Charlestown, MA
Client: Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA)

This shipyard served the US Navy for almost 175 years, closed in 1974 and is now preserved by the National Park Service. Brown, Richardson + Rowe designed Phase III, a $2.3 million promenade which abuts one of several old dry docks that open onto Boston Harbor. Our firm preserved existing artifacts of Boston’s maritime history, such as a dry dock crane and some large anchors, as well as mooring space for historic boats and shallow draft commuter vessels. Benches and light poles were added for the comfort of residents and tourists enjoying harbor views.
