Waterfronts
Georges Island
Georges Island, Boston Harbor, MA
Forty-one acre Georges Island is the centerpiece of the Boston Harbor Islands National Park and the setting for Fort Warren, a National Historic Landmark. Brown, Richardson + Rowe, with McGinley Kalsow & Associates, rehabilitated the Island’s historic Mine Storage Building, located at the base of the fort, as a new sustainable Visitors Center. Our firm designed the paths, shaded seating, and picnic areas. The design incorporates historical elements for interpretive purposes, including concrete rail tracks that allude to old tracks, historically appropriate plantings, and new educational signage.
