Millers River Walkway
Millers River Walkway, Boston, Cambridge and Charlestown, MA
North of the Charles River, under Interstate 93 viaduct, a new pedestrian bridge and accessible walkway now connect Rutherford Avenue in Charlestown to the Millers River which was freed from its confinement in a culvert. Brown, Richardson + Rowe worked on designing a functional walkway with elements that tell the history of the area. Sounding markings show where the water levels were in the nineteenth century. Historic markers tell about the nineteenth century industries. A “potato bollard” marks the site of the potato sheds that used to dot the area.
