Blackwell Footpath, The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University, Jamaica Plain, MA
Brown, Richardson + Rowe designed the Blackwell Footpath that winds through the Bussey Brook Meadow between the Forest Hills 'T' Station and the Arboretum’s original South Street gate. The footpath links this station, a major arrival point for visitors, to the Arboretum, an essential part of Olmsted’s Emerald Necklace. The Meadow's mix of New England wetland, woodland and meadow habitats is distinct from other Arboretum landscapes, enhances its dual function as both museum and park and offers visitors a different experience. The permeable path accommodates pedestrians, bicyclists and park rangers on horseback.
